How to choose your anti-UV t-shirt? (Part 1)

All our UV protection t-shirts are UPF50+, meaning they offer the maximum level of sun protection. The choice will therefore be based on the sleeve length and will then depend on the type of stresses during the practice. Surfing is where the constraints are greatest, so we decided to build our range primarily for surfing. For surfing, the choice will be made according to the duration of your sessions: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.

How to choose your anti-UV t-shirt? (Part 2: Depending on session length)

1 hour: Occasional use. You can choose between a loose fit (priority given to ease of donning and dry comfort) or a fitted cut (priority given to wet comfort). A buckle system to connect to the shorts provides stability. 2 hours: Regular use. Wet comfort is enhanced thanks to the seamless panels under the arms and the drawstring, which further increases stability. 3 hours: Intensive use. Added thermal insulation to last longer in the water.

Protects against UV rays even when wet.

The fabric that makes up this OLAIAN anti-UV product blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays (UPF 50+). This guarantees effective protection against the sun. It can be used in and out of the water for water sports and aquatic activities. UV filtration is generated by the density of the textile fibers; this protection is long-lasting, even after washing.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

UPF is a globally standardized and regulated sun protection factor (Ultra Violet Protection Factor). It defines the textile's level of protection and, more specifically, the proportion of UV rays transmitted. To meet the standards, it must block at least 95% of UV rays. UPF 50+ means that the textile blocks at least 95% of UVA rays and 98% of UVB rays.

Limitation of irritation

This anti-UV t-shirt limits friction with the surfboard or bodyboard. The loose fit of the t-shirt makes it easier to put on and more comfortable when dry. Opt for the fitted cut of the 100 or 500 top if you prefer wet comfort or if you wear it under the wetsuit. The limitation of irritations is validated for sessions of 1 hour. If you plan to surf for more than 1 hour, the choice of the UV 500 top will be more suitable thanks to the seamless panels under the arms.

Holding system

This anti-UV water t-shirt has a loop at the front to pass the cord of the swim shorts to prevent the top from riding up during practice. This solution is recommended for sessions up to 1 hour. Beyond an hour, we recommend choosing the UV 500 top which also has a drawstring at the hips to ensure better stability. The untimely rise of the top could indeed generate irritation in the lower abdomen.

Thermality and wind

The minimum recommended water temperature for using this anti-UV t-shirt is 22°C. Air temperature can increase or decrease this recommendation. Our thermal models (over 2 hours) are made of either fleece, neoprene, or both. The presence of wind will have an impact that can be bothersome as soon as the wind exceeds 15 km/h: In this case, choose a model with neoprene.

Because the child's defense system is put in place after the age of 3, the skin of children is very sensitive to the sun. At identical exposure, the effects of the sun are 2 to 3 times greater in a child than in an adult. It is therefore important to protect them effectively.

Behavior in the sun

Although this t-shirt provides protection from the sun, phenomena such as reflections (on water, sand, etc.), heat, time of day, etc. must be taken into account. Wearing this t-shirt does not exempt you from following appropriate behaviors: wearing sunglasses, wearing a hat or cap, regularly applying suitable sunscreen, drinking regularly, etc.
