main component

3-layer component with membrane

Membranes

The waterproofness of a product depends on 2 main criteria: its component and its construction. This product has been built with a membrane. It is a kind of very thin plastic film (in polyurethane) which makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being flexible, light and breathable.

3-layer construction

3-layer construction: The membrane is bonded between the outer fabric and the inner fabric. We use it for hard-wearing, high-performance jackets

Component impermeability

To guarantee the level of impermeability of a component, laboratory tests are carried out. To do this, we measure the resistance of a fabric to a water pressure expressed in mm of water column (test based on the JIS 1092 standard). The higher the pressure, the more the fabric is waterproof. This component has a waterproofness of 20000 mm and therefore withstands the pressure exerted by 20000 mm of water column. This is also equivalent to 20000 Schmerbers.

Waterproofness of the jacket

To ensure the level of waterproofness of the jacket, we carry out laboratory tests to simulate rain scenarios. This garment has been validated in a shower test under 30 cm of rain in 3 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a thunderstorm in the mountains.

Breathability

The breathability of a component is measured by its “Thermal Evaporative Resistance” (RET). accumulation of water on the skin. The lower the RET value, the more breathable the fabric.RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabricRET ≤ 12: breathable fabricRET ≤ 20: poorly breathable fabricThis product has been rated at 6 RET

Breathability of the jacket

In addition to the breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua is developing technical solutions (zips, vents, mesh, etc.) improving the overall ventilation of all its jackets. These ventilation systems make it possible both to regulate the temperature inside the garment and to facilitate the evacuation of perspiration generated by the body during exercise.

How to reactivate deperlence

The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it. The textile does not soak up water and remains light and breathable. Water repellency is obtained by a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. The water repellency can be reactivated by putting the jacket in the dryer for 10 minutes at low temperature. You can also use the waterproofing agent (ref 8554908)
