main component

2-layer component with coating and a mesh lining (ventilated component)

Coating

The impermeability of a product depends on 2 main criteria: its component and its construction. This product was constructed with a coating. The coating is like a kind of paint applied inside the fabric which makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. However, she asks for a lining to protect her.

Component waterproofing

To guarantee the level of impermeability of a component, laboratory tests are carried out. To do this, we measure the resistance of a fabric to a water pressure expressed in mm of water column (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more the fabric is waterproof. a waterproofness of 5000 mm therefore resists the pressure exerted by 5000 mm of water column. This is also equivalent to 5000 Schmerbers.

Jacket waterproofness

To ensure the level of impermeability of the jacket, we carry out laboratory tests to simulate rain scenarios. This garment has been validated in a shower test under 60 l of water / m² / hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a downpour in the mountains.

Breathability

The breathability of a component is measured by its “Thermal Evaporative Resistance” (RET). accumulation of water on the skin. The lower the RET value, the more breathable the fabric.RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabricRET ≤ 12: breathable fabricRET ≤ 20: poorly breathable fabricThis product has been rated at 12 RET

How to reactivate water repellency

The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it. The textile does not soak up water and remains light and breathable. Water repellency is obtained by a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. The water repellency can be reactivated by putting the jacket in the dryer for 10 minutes at low temperature. You can also use the waterproofing agent (ref 855490)

Product design: our know-how

Our global Quechua design center is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie. This location makes it a real meeting place between our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) and outdoor sports enthusiasts. A great asset for designing your mountain hiking products, and bringing you all our expertise.

Our commitment to consume less water with this product

The dyeing of textiles requires a lot of water but also releases waste water from the dye baths. To reduce our impact on the environment, we choose this method of dyeing in the mass, by integrating the color pigments from the manufacture of the yarn. For this jacket we were able to use this method for the black model and we are studying the possibility of duplicating it on the other colors.

Where do our jackets come from?

Created in our international design center at the foot of Mont Blanc, in France, this jacket is then made by our suppliers in Vietnam, Bangladesh, India and Morocco. These are partners who have real know-how for making jackets and with whom we are in close collaboration. This relationship of trust with our industrial partners allows us to create quality technical products.

Working conditions in our production workshops

We guarantee compliance with our code of conduct by our suppliers, who are often present in developing countries where our presence promotes job creation. Through audits and thanks to on-site teams, we ensure that employees benefit from a quality work environment based on respect, the fulfillment of people and the preservation of the environment.
