The resistance of a fabric to water pressure is measured in mm of water column (test based on the JIS standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Here are the waterproofing values: Component resistant to a water pressure of 5000mm before and after aging (5 washes). This is equivalent to 5000 Schmerber - average pressure exerted by water during a downpour. The waterproofness of the jacket was tested under a rain of 60 liters of water/m²/hour for
- High collar - Injected plastic zipper to prevent salt oxidation - Water-repellent components (water runs off the fabric) - 100% taped seams - Central opening with gutter flap for optimal waterproofing
To determine whether a fabric is breathable, its evaporative resistance RET (ISO 11092 standard) is measured. The lower the resistance, the more water vapor the fabric lets escape and therefore the more breathable the fabric is. We consider that if: RET < 9 = very breathable fabric 9 < RET < 12 = breathable fabric. Here are the breathability values of the Trek 500 jacket: > Most resistant fabric: RET < 12 (or 3621 g/m²/24h, JIS1099A standard) > Lightest fabric: RET < 8 (or 2972 g/m² /2
The hood doesn't stow away in the collar; it's attached. The hood is fully adjustable in depth, but not in length. For regulatory reasons, we can't put an adjustment cord close to the neck. The visor has a headband to provide a good level of protection and better support. The high collar effectively protects the neck.
2 zipped pockets on the front of the jacket to put your hands or some objects in. The pockets are not waterproof!
Uses a full-length zip with an inner flap and rain gutter to protect from wind and water. Soft fabric flap at the top of the collar to protect the chin.
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to allow water to slide off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents your jacket from becoming waterlogged and keeps it light and breathable. Water repellency is achieved through a treatment applied to the outer surface of the fabric, but these properties may be impaired over time.
You can wash your jacket on a synthetic cycle at 30° or 40°C with your usual detergent. Do not use fabric softener, which could damage the garment's original performance, nor, of course, bleach. Also, be careful not to fold your jacket too much when placing it in the washing machine and to limit the load on your machine. Very important: select a thorough rinse or perform a double rinse to completely remove detergent residue.
Drying is a crucial step to reactivate the water-repellent treatment. We recommend letting your jacket air dry completely, laying flat on a clothes horse. A radiator? Forget it! Then tumble dry your jacket on a synthetic setting for a short time, i.e., 10 to 15 minutes, before turning it right side out. It's important not to overdry the garment.
