Waterproof hiking jacket - NH550 - Women

The jacket's lining is made of two materials: mesh on the back to promote breathability and nylon on the hips to optimize ease of movement and abrasion resistance. On the hood, we used a peach-skin effect material with a soft feel for added comfort.

The jacket has seven pockets in total! Two pockets to warm your hands on the sides. Two large exterior bellows pockets closed with a flap and a snap button. An exterior chest pocket and an interior pocket, both closed with a zip to secure your personal belongings. An interior mesh pocket to store your gloves, for example, and keep them warm against your body!

The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET=12. The breathability of a component is measured by its “Thermal Evaporative Resistance” (RET). This is its ability to allow water vapor produced by the body during exercise to escape to the outside and thus prevent water from accumulating on the skin. The lower the RET value, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: not very breathable fabric

The waterproofness of this jacket is not limited to its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion. Sewn then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of varying intensities. Thus, this NH550 waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, or 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.

This jacket is designed for day hikes at a pace of 5 km/h, without elevation gain. During physical exertion, we sweat more or less depending on the intensity or length of the effort. If the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to the effort, the perspiration vapor condenses inside the jacket. We are wet inside: it is not the rain that penetrates, but the perspiration vapor that condenses. You must choose your waterproof jacket according to your type of exercise.

To maintain the fabric's water repellency, we recommend reactivating it regularly. You can do this every 3 washes (thorough rinsing is essential), or after about ten uses in the rain. You can easily reactivate the water repellency using a hot cycle: - with your tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic cycle), - with a hair dryer 20 cm away, making 2 back and forth movements, - or 2 passes with the iron, set to delicate without steam function

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or a membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H20 (pressure exerted by a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket is designed with a coated waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5000 mm H20 (Schmerber) before washing (i.e. the pressure exerted by a 5 meter water column).

The hood can be adjusted in height with a drawstring. It can be adjusted in depth thanks to a Velcro tab positioned at the back of the hood. The hood has a shape-memory visor for good face protection.
