We are conducting a comparative study in a thermal laboratory while walking in light winds (5km/h). The comfort temperature is the air temperature calculated so that 70% of users have a "slightly warm" thermal sensation. For this jacket, it is +1,5°C. However, each individual has their own sensitivity to the cold.
A jacket's waterproofness isn't limited to its individual components: the assembly technique used to assemble the various parts is also an evaluation criterion. Whether it's heat-sealed or sewn and then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of varying intensities. This waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, or 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or a membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H²0 (pressure exerted by a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket has a waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 5 mm H²000 (Schmerber) before washing. In winter, to stay warm, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet).
The seams of a jacket can be taped, which prevents water from seeping into that area. Here, the main seams are taped, which correspond to the seams of the hood, collar, shoulders, armholes, and chest.
To ensure the resistance of our products, we carry out tests on the chosen components: resistance to friction and abrasion, color fastness, resistance to repeated washing.
Maintenance products: spray or re-waterproofing liquid in the machine. To regenerate the water repellency of the fabric and optimize the performance of your garment throughout its life, we recommend the use of these products at least with each wash.
To dress well in winter, whatever your activity, we advise you to apply the 3-layer principle: layer 1: Technical underwear allows moisture transfer to keep the skin dry. layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth as well as moisture transfer. layer 3: The jacket protects from external conditions: rain, snow, wind. The whole must be breathable to wick away moisture.
