All our UV-protective t-shirts are UPF 50+, meaning they offer the highest level of sun protection. The choice will therefore depend on the sleeve length and the type of activity you'll be using. Surfing is where the demands are greatest, so we decided to design our range primarily for surfing. For surfing, the choice will depend on the duration of your sessions: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.
1 hour: Occasional use. You can choose between a loose fit (priority given to ease of donning and dry comfort) or a fitted cut (priority given to wet comfort). A buckle system to connect to the shorts provides stability. 2 hours: Regular use. Wet comfort is enhanced thanks to the seamless panels under the arms and the drawstring, which further increases stability. 3 hours: Intensive use. Added thermal insulation to last longer in the water.
The fabric that makes up this OLAIAN anti-UV product blocks at least 98% of UVB and 95% of UVA (UPF 50+). This guarantees effective protection against the sun. It can be used in and out of the water for water and aquatic sports. UV filtration is generated by the density of the textile fibers, for resistant protection, even after washing. Warning: the elastane contained in the fiber can deteriorate in chlorinated water.
UPF is a globally standardized and recognized sun protection factor (Ultraviolet Protection Factor). It defines the level of protection offered by a textile, specifically the percentage of UV transmission it allows. To meet the standards, it must block at least 95% of UV rays. UPF 50+ means that the textile blocks at least 95% of UVA and 98% of UVB rays.
This anti-UV t-shirt limits friction and irritations related to contact with the surfboard or bodyboard. It can also be used under a wetsuit to limit friction, particularly at the neck and armpits. We have designed seamless panels under the arms to limit irritations related to paddling movements. Our test protocols have validated that irritations were indeed limited during two-hour sessions.
The minimum recommended water temperature for using this UV-protective t-shirt is 22°C. Air temperature may affect this recommendation. Our thermal models (for periods longer than 2 hours) are made of fleece, neoprene, or a combination of both. Wind will have an impact that can become uncomfortable once the wind speed exceeds 15 km/h: In this case, choose a model made of neoprene.
Our UV tops are designed to meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. Our design choices also make them compatible with other water sports such as swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, active sea walking (longe-côte) or SUP (stand-up paddle).
Although this t-shirt provides protection from the sun, phenomena such as reflection (on water, sand, etc.), heat, time of day, etc. must be taken into account. Wearing this t-shirt does not exempt you from following appropriate behaviors: wearing sunglasses, wearing a hat or cap, regularly applying suitable sunscreen, drinking regularly, etc.
