To ensure the waterproofing level of a component, laboratory tests are performed. This involves measuring a fabric's resistance to water pressure expressed in mm of water column (test based on the JIS 1092 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it. The textile does not soak up water and remains light and breathable. Water repellency is obtained by a treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment.
