Waterproofing of the component of these overtrousers

The waterproofness of a fabric, ensured by a coating or a membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H20 (pressure exerted by a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. These overpants are designed with a coated waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5000 mm H20 (Schmerber) before washing (i.e. the pressure exerted by a 5 meter water column).

Waterproofing of these overtrousers

The waterproofness of overpants isn't limited to the waterproofing of their components: the assembly technique of the various parts is also an evaluation criterion. Sewn and then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your overpants is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of varying intensities. These Raincut waterproof overpants protect you from a light downpour, or 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.

Performance of the overtrousers in the rain

For long-lasting water repellency, we recommend reactivating it regularly. You can do this every 3 washes (thorough rinsing is essential), or after about ten uses in the rain. You can easily reactivate the water repellency using a hot cycle: - with your tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic cycle), - with a hair dryer 20 cm away, making 2 back-and-forth movements, - or 2 passes with the iron, set to delicate without steam function

Fabric breathability

The fabric of these overpants is breathable: RET=12. The breathability of a component is measured by its “Thermal Evaporative Resistance” (RET). This is its ability to allow water vapor produced by the body during exercise to escape to the outside and thus prevent water from accumulating on the skin. The lower the RET value, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: not very breathable fabric

Choose your waterproof overtrousers according to your sporting effort

This product is designed for hiking for a few hours at a maximum pace of 5 km/h. During physical exertion, we sweat more or less depending on the intensity or length of the effort. If the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to the effort, the perspiration vapor condenses inside the overpants. We are wet inside: it is not the rain that penetrates, but the perspiration vapor that condenses. You must therefore choose your overpants according to your type of exercise.
