What is comfort temperature?

We display on all our sleeping bags the comfort temperatures tested by an independent laboratory (AITEX) according to the international standard ISO 23537-1: 2022. The comfort temperature is the minimum temperature at which an average person (woman, 25 years old, 60 kg, 1,60 m) is comfortable, without feeling cold, in a relaxed position. Choose your sleeping bag according to this.

And what is the comfort temperature limit?

The comfort limit temperature is the minimum temperature at which an average person (male, 25 years old, 70 kg, 1,73 m) can sleep curled up without feeling significantly cold. And for your information, the extreme temperature is the minimum temperature at which a person can survive (risk of hypothermia) for 6 hours. This is a safety measure, not a comfort measure.

What mattress should I use this sleeping bag with?

The protocol for measuring the thermal performance of a sleeping bag uses a mattress with a thermal resistance corresponding to an R-value of 4,8. Using a less insulating mattress will reduce the thermal performance of your sleeping bag. We therefore recommend using an insulating mattress for better thermal comfort.

How not to be cold in the MT500 5°C sleeping bag?

Dress simply (one layer of clothing, ideally merino wool, is enough). Protect your extremities with a hat, gloves, socks and hand warmers if necessary. Use a sleeping bag liner to optimize warmth and avoid washing your sleeping bag too much. Choose a mattress with good insulation (R-value > 1). And a little tip: contract your muscles (3% of the energy consumed is transformed into heat), but without making any movement that generates a cold draft!

How to repair your MT500 5°C sleeping bag?

When trekking, a snag on a sleeping bag can happen! The good news is that it can be repaired to prevent the tear from getting bigger or the synthetic fibers from escaping. We recommend using self-adhesive repair patches (ref: 8584596). And if you don't feel comfortable doing this, an iron-on patch application service is available in the workshop at your Decathlon store.

Do you want to know more about the wadding used in your MT500 5°C sleeping bag?

For the top and bottom of the sleeping bag, we use 3 layers of 60 g/m2, 100% polyester wadding. The wadding is made of siliconized helical fibers, giving it great compressibility and resilience. Despite its thinness, it has a high level of insulation thanks to the air trapped inside while maintaining a low weight. It has the advantage of retaining its warmth even when wet.

How durable is the fabric of the MT500 5°C sleeping bag?

The exterior is made of 100% polyamide, 38 g/m², 20 denier fabric. This fabric is resistant to 20 abrasion cycles. The resistance is calculated using the Martindale test (Standard 000 12-947). This test consists of rubbing the bag material against another material in order to determine the wear limits of the product. The interior lining uses 2% polyamide, 100 g/m², 35 denier fabric.

How are the fabrics of this sleeping bag made?

This product does not contain any intentionally added PFAS treatments.

This wadding sleeping bag has been reworked to make it lighter and more compact and thus better meet your expectations. For easier use, it opens 3/4 of the length.
