The weight of your pool cue
Your billiard cue weighs approximately 400 g (13 oz) in 122 cm or 540 g (19 oz) in 145 cm, with a tolerance of 10%. As the tails are made of wood, the weight cannot be absolutely guaranteed: fiber density, even for the same wood species, varies from forest to forest; in the same tree there can be important variations, according to the exposure to the sun, of the exploited section (barrel, crown, crown, crown). To start it is necessary to move towards a rather heavy tail.
The dimensions of your tail
Your American billiard cue measures 122 cm, i.e. 48 inches (1 inch = 2,54 cm) or 145 cm (57 inches). In the case of the 122 cm format, this will allow you to play more easily in smaller spaces . This size will also suit players of smaller stature because ideally the top of the pool cue is at shoulder height.
Why can't we guarantee the straightness of our pool cues?
All of our pool cues are handmade. The straightness is checked individually, piece by piece, at the end of manufacture. However, as billiard cues are made of wood, variations in temperature and humidity during transport, storage, in store, can upset this straightness requirement. This difficulty is true for all billiard cues on the market, all those made of wood in any case (maple, ash, poplar, ramin).
Why yellow poplar?
Poplar is a popular wood species: often used for indoor furniture for its technical characteristics and accessibility; poplar has the advantage of drying quickly without deforming. It also has the advantage of possessing excellent natural straightness: poplars grow straight. This makes it a great choice for pool cues, which need to be as straight as possible.
How to keep your billiard cue?
Our team advises you to keep your billiard cue away from humidity and temperature changes. After each game, do not leave your cue leaning on a wall, this could deform it. It is best to store it flat in a cover or storage case. Otherwise, keep your billiard cue as vertically as possible, with a cue rack for example: this allows it to preserve its straightness and avoid deformations.
Did you know ? the process of your billiard cue maintains itself.
Your cue, and in particular its process (the tip), wear out from repeated shocks with the cue ball. In addition to this wear by "compression", the process is degraded by abrasion (chalk is a powerful abrasive which comes to eliminate the leather process). Hence the need to change your process regularly. To change it, nothing could be simpler: 1/ Take off the damaged process 2/ Sand the new process 3/ Stick the process 4/ Work the process 5/ All you have to do is play!
Why a one-piece cue?
Opt for simplicity and speed with this one-piece cue: a one-piece billiard cue requires no assembly, it is ready to play, immediately! straighter than a collapsible tail. The correct straightness is influenced by two factors: the straightness over time of the arrow (the front part of the tail), the alignment of the shaft and the arrow at the junction.
Tip from the team: how to properly hold your pool cue?
When you start, hold your tail well is essential: a good grip will allow you more precision and optimize the success of your shots. Nicolas Henric, coach of the French Blackball teams and Maeva Brionne, international player, explains how to hold your pool cue properly in order to be more precise and efficient during your games > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbLFttSWOAA
Which tail for which use?
Billiards is rich in the diversity of its practices: American, English, French, snooker... and so many others! Each discipline corresponds to rules, a state of mind... But also a specific use, for more or less large balls. Choosing the right billiard cue starts with knowing what discipline it will be intended for! Here is the size of the processes generally used: > US billiards: 13 mm > French billiards: 11-12 mm > snooker: 9-10 mm>blackball: 8-9mm
