What level of warmth does this down jacket offer?
This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been validated for an active comfort temperature of -5°C, during a protocol test in a thermal chamber. The model wears a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a light fleece. It works with a simulated wind of 5 km/h. We also tested this model statically. Its comfort temperature is then +5°C.
The benefits of duck down and feather filling
The swelling capacity of down gives it 3 qualities for practicing mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and the feathers. - Ultra lightness: with equal heat, the feather is lighter than synthetic wadding . This saves even more weight in the backpack.- Ultra compressibility.
Fill power of down/feather filling
The fill power represents the thermal insulation capacity of the down by the "imprisonment" of a certain volume of air. It is expressed in cuin. Thus, the more the down is inflating (+ the number of cuin is high), the more space it occupies, the more it traps air and therefore the more it insulates. For this down jacket filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, the fill power is guaranteed to be greater than or equal to 800 cuin (international standard).
Water repellency of the component (not to be confused with impermeability)
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it. Thus, the textile does not soak up water and remains light and warm. The material of this down jacket is water-repellent, however we advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over it in case of exposure to the rain. The water repellency is obtained by a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric, but with use it can be altered. We advise you to reactivate it after each wash.
How to maintain a down jacket?
The down jacket will be worn all winter and will definitely need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it retains its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice: 1/ Machine wash with detergent for down or technical sportswear, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin.2/ Tumble dry on cotton mode, with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.
How to reactivate water repellency?
After cleaning your down jacket, we advise you to use a liquid water repellant reactivator in order to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. It regenerates the water repellency of the fabric and optimizes the performance of your garment throughout its life.
