This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been validated for an active comfort temperature of -10°C, during a protocol test in a thermal chamber. The model wears a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a light fleece. It works with a simulated wind at 5 km/h. We also tested this model statically. Its comfort temperature is then 0°C.
The loft of down gives it 3 qualities for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers. - Ultra lightness: for equal warmth, the feather is lighter than synthetic wadding. This allows you to save even more weight in your backpack. - Ultra compressibility.
The fill power represents the thermal insulation capacity of the down by "trapping" a certain volume of air. It is expressed in cuin. Thus, the more the down is puffy (+ the number of cuin is high), the more space it occupies, the more air it traps and therefore the more it insulates. For this down jacket filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, the fill power is guaranteed to be greater than or equal to 800 cuin (international standard).

The down jacket will be worn all winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it retains its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice: 1/ Machine wash with a detergent for down or technical sportswear, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin. 2/ Tumble dry on cotton setting, with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide over its surface without absorbing it. Thus, the textile does not soak up water and remains light and warm. The material of this down jacket is water-repellent, however we advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over it in case of exposure to the rain. The water repellency is obtained by a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer face of the fabric, but with use it can be altered. We advise you to reactivate it after each wash.
After cleaning your down jacket, we advise you to use a liquid water repellant reactivator in order to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. It regenerates the water repellency of the fabric and optimizes the performance of your garment throughout its life.
On a trek, a hitch on a down jacket can happen! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping. Not comfortable doing this repair yourself? Do not panic ! Some Decathlon workshops offer you, in store, a repair service to mend your down jacket using an iron-on patch.
