The grip of our soles is certified. To qualify, the shoe must pass laboratory tests to assess its grip coefficient on different surfaces (smooth, rough, dry, wet). To validate these tests, we then have the quality of our soles assessed in the field, in the mountains, by a panel of child testers.
For hiking, do not hesitate to take a size above your child's usual size. This will guarantee him optimal comfort on the descent and thus prevent his toes from hitting the stopper of the shoe. Advice: keep his nails short and, before any descent, check that the Velcro and/or the tightness of the laces are in place to prevent his foot from slipping towards the front of the shoe.
Have your child try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks they use for hiking. Two comfort points should be checked: the heel cushion and the forefoot when going downhill. Avoid any pressure points when trying them on. Gradually introduce them to the shoes during their first hikes to break them in. You can print the circumference and check their foot length online: https://pdfcoffee.com/pedimetreuepdf-pdf-free.html
Tested in the laboratory and in use, the shoes provide you with optimal waterproofing and breathability. First immersed in water under air pressure, we check the absence of bubbles on the surface of the shoe. Then these are placed, half submerged, on a mechanical arm simulating walking, we then check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry. For this model, the test lasts the equivalent of 8 km under the conditions mentioned above.
The impermeability of a shoe is often impaired by the intrusion of water from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet drier for longer, it is therefore advisable to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter which will protect the top of the shoe from the entry of water, but also from stones, sand, etc. It is advisable to use a re-waterproofing spray a few times a year to restore the original water repellency and fight against external stains.
Removable insole for faster drying. It can also be replaced by an orthopedic insole.

Sole that came off after 6 days of use
Great hiking shoes for children. Very good grip and waterproofing at the top, and yes a 4 year old child is ideal for testing all this because even if we tell him no he dips his feet in the river and then walks on wet rocks ;) Two small complaints though I had to make them they are a little stiff at the start at the ankle so a little advice put them on your children some time before the first hikes so that they can soften them a little otherwise possible a little pain in the ankles. And shoes perhaps a little heavy for small legs, in my opinion and not according to my son's feelings. To conclude, really very good hiking shoes to buy without hesitation to equip your children, even young ones.
