How to choose the right pétanque boules?

Choose the petanque ball that suits you based on several criteria. Your type of game (pointer, shooter, midfielder) will determine: - the bounce quality you're looking for (hard, semi-soft, soft, or very soft) - the weight of your ball (heavier for pointers and lighter for shooters) The size of your hand will determine the diameter of the ball.

How to maintain petanque balls?

At the end of each game, remove the dust with a clean cloth. Once a month, oil the petanque balls to prevent the appearance of rust. Regular maintenance will extend the life of petanque balls, while maintaining the playing qualities.

Hardness

HALF-SOFT pétanque ball in stainless steel

Depreciable

The heat treatment used provides optimal cushioning for this stainless steel ball.

What does the hardness of a petanque ball mean?

Ball hardness is expressed in ROCKWELL HRC units or kg/mm². For example, 39 HRC corresponds to 124 kg/mm². The higher the number, the harder the ball. The harder the ball, the less it damages but the more it bounces, and vice versa. A regular player who uses soft balls should consider changing them regularly to maintain playing qualities.

Machining of inner shells

The half-shells were machined internally before assembly to remove any metal residue and ensure identical thickness. This process greatly improves the ball's balance in play.

How are competition-approved koodza petanque balls made?

Our competition pétanque balls are hollow. Here are the steps in our manufacturing process: - A piece of steel heated to +/- 1000 C° is flattened, then stamped or forged to shape a 1/2 sphere. - These 1/2 spheres are then machined inside then welded and turned to obtain the spherical shape. - The ball is engraved, fired then dipped in baths which will determine its hardness. - Finally, it is polished or varnished then checked.
