Entirely designed and validated by us, at the foot of Mont Blanc, in a team with passionate and demanding trekkers, during legendary treks: Tour du Mont Blanc, Moroccan Atlas, Tour de Tenerife. The durability of this pole has also been validated by a 550km durability test mission in the Canaries and Pyrenees (GR10).
You trek to enjoy the peace and quiet of the great outdoors, which sometimes means being far from civilization. In addition, you carry your belongings for several days. You must therefore be able to count on the strength of your poles. We therefore opted for widened tubes made of high-end aluminum. We secured the push-pin area with an internal reinforcement. This model can therefore support 560 N (~56 kg) per pole, data from the compression test (pressure in the axis of the pole).
To get to your trekking location, you'll sometimes need to take public transport. You'll also need to carry a lot of equipment in your backpack. It's therefore much more practical to have compact poles. Once folded, these poles fit into the side pocket of your trekking backpack.
We favored EVA foam, a soft material that's ideal for sweat management and highly resistant to snags. We added a long grip under the handle for a low grip when climbing and sloping. The knob is the most comfortable in the range with its elongated rounded shape and soft material. It allows for a very good grip from above. Finally, we designed the wrist strap without excess thickness and with few seams to avoid blisters.
To use the pole: first unfold the pole until the push-pin "clicks". Refer to the instructions attached to the pole. To adjust the length: The forearm holding the pole must be perpendicular to the arm along the body. - open the external blocker lever - slide the tube to the desired length - close the lever Never exceed the STOP line to avoid the risk of breaking the pole.
This hiking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself, and distribute the effort between your arms and legs. For added safety, check your pole's locking mechanism before setting off and at regular intervals by simulating significant pressure. If you notice that your pole tends to sag, the locking knob needs to be adjusted. Open the lever and tighten the knob a quarter to half a turn. Do not place it on your backpack during thunderstorms.
Properly maintaining your pole helps maintain optimal performance and extend its lifespan. After use, if water has penetrated the pole, disassemble the sections and let it dry. If necessary, clean off any dust or mud with water or dry with a soft brush or paintbrush. Once dry, you can reassemble the sections. We recommend not attempting to oil or grease the mechanisms.
At Decathlon, we have decided to sell our hiking/trekking poles individually. On the one hand for reasons of use. Indeed, some people only want to use a stick. On the other hand, if one of your sticks breaks, this allows you to buy back just one stick rather than a complete pair.
